"The first time we have 'The Star-Spangled Banner' played for any type of sporting event," says Clague, "is actually May 15, 1862, in Brooklyn, N.Y."Ĭlague is a University of Michigan musicology professor who has spent a lot of his adult life learning everything he can about "The Star-Spangled Banner.
